12-10-2007 Here is another praise report.
Friday the doctors were able to remove most of the tubes from Kailee's side and other areas. Yesterday (Sunday) they were able to get her completely off the ventilator and removed the trache tube and the drainage tube from her spine. They are still watching the tear in her heart very closely. From the last echo cardiogram the doctors took, they said that there was a tiny bit of improvement where the tear is. They are not discussing let her go home right now, but all are hopeful it will be soon.
Kailee started eating small amounts yesterday and even more today. She was craving pizza, but isn't allowed to chew, so we improvised. She ate a whole meatball with cheese and sauce from Subway (chopped very finely). Yummy.
Today she was able to get out of bed, sit up and walk for the first time with assistance. She walked with Physical Therapy a short distance. They took her down to the x-ray area in a wheel chair for a CT scan of her neck (no results yet). She sat up while they gave her a bath and changed her bed. All-in-all she was up for about 45 minutes. (WOW!!!)
Later we washed her hair in a special pain in bed which meant lifting her a little (which was painful) and it took a very long time, but she did great. Occupational therapy came in this evening and worked with her arms a short time to work the soreness out and increase her range of motion. It's not that she can't move her arms, it's more that it hurts really bad to move them, mostly the left side. She was tough through that too.
She has been awake most of the day and has been in very good spirits. We got to see that "Kailee Smile" several times today, which was awesome. When Sherry and I left this evening she was watching a Christmas movie very intently (she shushed us for talking during the movie).
This has been a super day for her. It was an awesome visit for us and we could tell it was an awesome day for Kim, too. Kim, Darryl and Kailee are very thankful for all of our prayers, visits, gifts, everything. Kailee has been a trooper through all of this. We are very proud of her. Continue to keep them in your prayers. ---Tina Stults
